Khanyetsa went from seedling to sprout in November 2017. After realising that critical skills and expertise, especially in the intellectual property space, were out of reach for many start ups and SMEs, Sinal Govender decided to fill this gap and simultaneously join the world of social entrepreneurs to walk the journey with likeminded people.
Sinal’s passion for innovation started during her university days, where she found the area of law that she loved: intellectual property. She graduated first in her class for the intellectual property electives, and then worked for two of South Africa’s largest law firms, while qualifying as a Trade Mark Practitioner with the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Lawyers. She has represented global and national leaders in the retail, pharmaceutical, fashion, FMCG, and innovation industries.
But this is about more than that. Sinal has worked with some of the world’s largest and most successful companies, but she is also making her way through the challenges that come with starting a business. This places her in the unique position of understanding what it is like to start from the grassroots, whilst simultaneously knowing what needs to be done at the outset to get to the top.
